I believe every bird should
have a healthy and happy life with their human companions. Unfortunately
most birds are often misunderstood by their human friends and act
out in aggression, fear, incessant screaming, and neurotic behavior;
this can be extremely frustrating for both the bird and their respective
human counterpart. My goal is to help people create a nurturing
and healthy bird/human relationship. Many people give up on their
bird and they unfortunately end up in rescue centers or are simply
given away, creating even more compound problems. The idea
to start a bird consulting service was at the advice of many people
who I'd help with their bird's behavioral problems.
Having thirteen years experience with birds I've
acquired a vast amount of knowledge. My experience
with parrots range from breeding, raising, nutrition, and behavioral
modification. Answering numerous questions about behavior
and diet, people started telling me that I should hold classes or
write a book on the subject. Unfortunately holding classes or writing
a book would not be as affective as one would think. Birds need
to learn new behaviors in their own setting. Taking a bird out of
it's normal surrounding and bringing it to "class" would
not only cause the bird undo stress, it would be ineffective and
counterproductive in changing a birds behavior.
Furthermore writing a book about the subject, while it would be
informative, would lack the on one instruction necessary for positive
change. Every bird acts and reacts differently. A "rule of
thumb" might provide some help but would not be as effective
in understanding one bird's personality and behavior.
By learning your birds body language, it's
nutritional needs, and understand it's species in general you can
create a happy and healthy life for you and your bird. So let's
stop the screaming and the biting, and lets get to know your avian
companion!
